Chiropractor for Neck Pain in Currambine
Neck pain ranges from waking up unable to turn your head to a background ache that has been there for years. Both are worth assessing, and both usually have more going on than the neck itself.
Can a chiropractor help with neck pain?
Chiropractic care is commonly used for mechanical neck pain and stiffness, combining hands-on treatment with range and strength work. At Northern Beaches Chiropractic in Currambine, neck pain is assessed before treatment, including neurological screening where symptoms travel into the arm.
What commonly contributes to it
People commonly visit us for assessment and management of neck pain. These are the factors that turn up most often — your own picture is worked out in the assessment.
- Sustained postures — desk work, driving, phone use
- Waking with a locked, painful neck after an awkward night
- Training loads that outpace what the upper back and shoulders can support
- Stress-related muscle tension, which is real and measurable
- Previous whiplash or trauma that never fully settled
The neck rarely acts alone
Thoracic spine stiffness, shoulder blade control and breathing pattern all change how much work the neck has to do. Treating only the sore part often produces short-lived relief.
Assessment therefore covers the upper back and shoulders as well, which is usually where the more durable change comes from.
Posture is a factor, not the villain
There is no single correct posture, and sitting up straighter is not a cure. What matters far more is variation — how long you hold any one position before changing it.
Practical adjustments to a desk setup can help, and they work best alongside strength through the neck and upper back rather than instead of it.
About neck adjustments
Adjustment of the neck is one option and it is always a discussion, not an assumption. Some people want it, some do not, and effective care is available either way.
If you would prefer gentler techniques — mobilisation, soft tissue work, needling and loading — say so at the start and that is what you will get.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to have your neck adjusted?
Serious complications from cervical manipulation are rare. Screening for the presentations where it is not appropriate is part of the assessment, and the technique is always consented to. If you would rather avoid it, alternative approaches are available and effective.
Why does my neck keep going out?
Recurring episodes usually reflect capacity rather than something structurally slipping. If the neck and upper back cannot tolerate your daily load, ordinary movements will keep tipping it over. Building tolerance is what changes that pattern.
Can neck problems cause headaches?
Yes. Cervicogenic headache — headache referred from structures in the neck — typically starts at the base of the skull and can spread over one side of the head. It often responds to treatment directed at the neck.
What if my arm is tingling?
Arm symptoms warrant a neurological screen as part of the assessment. They can be mechanical and manageable, but they need checking properly rather than treating as ordinary neck pain.
