Chiropractor for Hip Pain in Currambine

Hip pain gets described in a lot of ways — a deep pinch in the front, an ache on the side you cannot lie on, a glute that never seems to switch on. Each points somewhere different, which is why the description matters as much as the testing.

Can a chiropractor help with hip pain?

Yes, for musculoskeletal hip pain including lateral hip pain, gluteal tendon related pain and hip stiffness. Assessment at Northern Beaches Chiropractic in Currambine distinguishes hip joint problems from referred pain out of the lower back before treatment begins.

What commonly contributes to it

People commonly visit us for assessment and management of hip pain. These are the factors that turn up most often — your own picture is worked out in the assessment.

  • Gluteal tendon related pain, felt on the outside of the hip
  • Hip joint stiffness limiting rotation, common in golfers and lifters
  • Referred pain from the lower back that presents as hip pain
  • A jump in running volume or a change in surface
  • Long hours seated, which leaves the hips loaded in one position all day

Hip or back?

A surprising amount of hip pain comes from the lower back, and a surprising amount of buttock pain is genuinely the hip. Getting this wrong means treating the wrong region for weeks.

The distinction usually comes from testing rather than location — how the hip behaves through its range, and whether spinal movement reproduces the symptom.

Lateral hip pain does not need stretching

Pain on the outside of the hip is commonly gluteal tendon related. Aggressive stretching and rolling of that area often makes it worse, because it compresses the tendon further.

The more reliable path is reducing compressive positions — crossing legs, sleeping without a pillow between the knees, hanging on one hip when standing — while progressively loading the gluteal muscles.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my hip hurt when I lie on it?

Side-lying compresses the tendons on the outside of the hip. It is a hallmark of gluteal tendon related pain. A pillow between the knees and avoiding the painful side for a period usually reduces night symptoms while loading work progresses.

Is my hip pain arthritis?

Hip osteoarthritis is one possibility, particularly with morning stiffness and gradually reducing rotation. It is also very manageable — loading and strength work are first-line for hip OA and often make a substantial difference.

Should I stretch a tight hip?

It depends what is limiting it. If the restriction is joint related, stretching achieves little. If it is a tendon issue on the outside of the hip, stretching can aggravate it. Working out the limiter first avoids weeks of the wrong homework.
